From the July 1993 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, tonight we have an official coupon for an iron-on BUBSY transfer.
After Sonic the Hedgehog came out in 1991, it seemed like every company (including Sega itself) tried to re-create its success with another anthropomorphic animal. BUBSY was one of them. Another one that comes to mind is Aero the Acrobat.
You may have noticed that the last few posts of gaming magazine miscellany do not include an exact location (unlike, say, this post where I specified exactly where it was from). The reason for this is that when I initially went through my stack, I was eager to toss out as much as I could, and saving these little bits and pieces was more of an afterthought. At the very least, I did jot down where they came from, but unfortunately I didn’t go into detail. That, as they say, is how history is lost.
Enjoy this promotion for a Sonic imitator!
